Work Experience (other than teaching)

Teaching

As you can see above, I've done a few other things besides teaching. I've enjoyed them all, but nothing the way that I enjoy teaching. Working with young people and exploring ideas is about the best combination of things to do I could ever conjure.

I hope that every student feels comfortable in my class and walks away at the end of the year learning more about him or herself and what he or she can accomplish.

A Personal Side...

I very much enjoy other cultures -- learning other languages and getting to know people who have lives different from my own. Here are some shots of some of my favorite places and people.

One of my favorite pictures of my daughter, Annika.

(Taken on my iPhone)

The two loves of my life.
<--- My wife and I most recently traveled to Thailand, where we taught English in the high school. These pictures show students paying respect to the school's director by bowing and students practicing traditional Thai music.

<--- After teaching, my wife and I decided to visit some of the gorgeous Thai beaches.  We also kayaked through caves and rode elephants (very fun).

Some Thai people enjoy these as a snack! --->

<---  I and the love of my life (Alecia) got married October 7, 2005 in New York State. Alecia is a legal aide attorney who most enjoys working with kids. We both live in Evanston.
<--- These pictures were both taken in Brazil, probably my favorite country...

The little fish I'm holding is a piranha, which we caught using a piece of a cow's heart as bait.

The lower picture shows me at Foz do Iguacu, on the border of Brazil and Argentina.

This is me in Florence, where I studied Italian for about two and a half months. ---->

I unfortunately forgot most of what I learned...

easy come, easy go.

<--- All of these pictures are taken in Israel, which was a dream trip for me...

Here I am floating in the Dead Sea.

I spent two weeks volunteering for the Israel Army. Just thought it would be an interesting experience.. and it was! (My job was to inspect M16 magazine cartridges.)

This is in the Golan Heights. There are signs of war mixed in with the natural beauty all over the place.

Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

This very spot is a sacred place for Jews, Muslims, and Christians alike.

Middle of the desert. A hot hike.

These pictures were taken in Petra, Jordan --->

Here I am with some local Bedouin people I met.

Taken in front of an AMAZING facade (called "The Treasury") carved into the side of a cliff. If you are an Indiana Jones fan, you may remember this from "The Last Crusade.".

<---- My godson, Mark.

<--- Self portrait of me and my dad taken in Venice, Italy.

<----- Self portrait of me and my late Babcia (grandmother)

<----- My mother and I went to see the Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls play the year that they won their 6th NBA championship. We had great tickets (2nd row) and it's a great memory. I was yelling so loud, I am convinced that MJ heard me and was inspired by my encouragement. :)  My mother was a middle school teacher for 27 years. She passed away at age 52 from breast cancer.

These are my fellow teachers from my first year of teaching in Los Angeles ---->

My best friend's daughter, Olivia, only a week old in this picture -->

<-- These are my ID photos from when *I* was in high school. (Embarassing!)

<--- And my press pass from my reporter days at the University of Michigan.
